Spring 2022

Spring is broken into 2 parts; pre- & post-competition. During the pre-competition the gymnasts are doing more recovery & fewer strength exercises to maximize their energy for gymnastics specific skills training. Rehabilitation and visualization/breathwork is Post-competition training is when we review the season and set goals for the upcoming year. Training will feature general strength exercises with moderate weights, preparing the gymnasts for more intense training at DMPFIT during the summer.

Summer 2022

25-weeks until first competition (43-weeks until states). With the most training time available before states begins, the summer plan at DMPFIT will include more rigorous strength & power training. These physical qualities take the longest to develop and are energy consuming. We prioritize the summer as an opportunity to develop these skills because doing so while the gymnasts are doing routines is less effective and can potentially lead to over training.

Gymnasts are expected to be more sore during this period and it’s suggested that athletes do additional foam rolling/stretching at home. Please consider the above while planning your summer schedule; you will see much better results with 2x/week.

Fall 2022

13-weeks until first competition (31-weeks until states). As school begins and gymnastics practice training intensifies, we will modify our training accordingly. After the summer, we expect the gymnasts to be their strongest. Now is the time to integrate more gymnastics-specific strength/power exercises into their routine, while reducing the amount of volume at DMPFIT. It’s suggested that the gymnasts take time to practice these more advanced techniques 2x/week.

Winter & Spring 2022/2023

1-week until first competition (19-weeks until states). This is where we get the most creative at DMPFIT. The gymnasts will be starting their competitions while also increasing training intensity at Aim High to perfect their routines. Training at DMPFIT will feature more recovery exercises while maintaining the strength & power gains made during the summer/fall. It’s suggested that gymnasts utilize this time for recovery sessions 2x/week.
